Default Safe Place to Move To In San Diego Area

Hey, I live in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and I'm looking to move to the San Diego area. I am looking for info on any safe places to live where there are either houses or apartment for rent. I do need them to be affordable as well... I make about 35,000 a year and can live decent in Iowa. I know Cali is more expensive, that's why I'm looking for more info. Anything you can give me would be awesome, thanks!

Here is a link to info about the gang injunctions: Gang Injunctions - San Diego District Attorney (http://www.sdcda.org/protecting/gang.php - broken link)

This is a link to a crime map. It only shows up to 92 days but it seems helpful for finding out what kind of crime is taking place in certain areas:

San Diego Regional Crime MAPS

I'm trying to find a safe area for my son to move to while he attends Platt College. So far the area just west of the intersection of Montezuma & El Cajon Blvd looks promising.

I don't actually have a job. Mostly doing research to see if the move would be possible. It would really help me to know what I would need to save, and what I would need to look for in a job. I know it sounds crazy to do this without a job... haha

I wouldn't do it at this point in time without a job. Jobs here are very hard to find right now. Just stay where you are and save up some money. Think about it at a later date.

^Seconded. If you have a job now, DON'T MOVE. Wait until unemployment goes down.
Wages are better here, but even if you get a job in SD it will STILL be harder to get by because the gap between expenses and income will be narrower.

Yeah, I don't plan on doing it for probably a good year or so. I am just trying to do my research really. I appreciate all the help thus far.
