Default If anyone is looking for a pet in North County........

please check out
www.pendletonyardsales.com

This is like a craigslist for Camp Pendleton, although anyone can buy stuff from there. Sadly, many militay move and are unable or unwilling to relocate thier pets, so many people are often looking to rehome thier pet.

I adopted a rescue dog who had been given up to a shelter by a military person going overseas. He is a very sweet dog.

Why would someone in the military adopt an animal if the nature of their job may require them to move often? I've always wondered that.

I completely agree. Pets are not disposable, they are your family member and when you adopt them, you agree to take care of them for the rest of their lives. You know exactly what you're getting into when you get a dog and join the military, so it should be no shock that you might need to move with the pet in the near future. I know plenty of people in the military who are responsible pet owners and would never leave their pets behind. Using the military as a reason to dump your pets is a cheap cop out and people like that should be placed on a list forbidding them to ever own pets again. Step up and be responsible for the pets you have. They don't want to go to another home.

Some people in the military are kids, don't forget that. They probably fall in love with the pet and aren't thinking that far ahead. Years ago when I was a full time speaker, I was asked to speak to a group of Marine wives whose husbands were off at Desert Storm. Some of those wives were 17 years old.

Several countries require a quarantine, and a lot of people don't want to go through the trouble of following all the rules and regulations required of it.

If you are going off to a war zone, quarantines don't matter. You can't take your pets with you to a war zone.

Sorry about the question . . . it was a bit of a knee-jerk reaction. Didn't mean to take away the focus from the animals that need our help.

By all means, let's help these pets find homes.

This is such a wonderfull idea.... Maybe another thought for the military would be someone to allow them to rent a pup from the pound...
