Coyotes in Valley Center, CA 92082
Wondering if others here in Valley Center are having a problem with to many coyotes out behind their property? My cat has been attacked twice now, $500 in vet bills the first time... Second time just some minor scratches. This morning 9-16-09 at about 9:30 am, I don't know what triggered it but I swear there must of been at the least 12 - 15 coyotes sounding off up on the hill....
I'm relativly new to the area and truly would like to know what can be done to thin out this pack of coyotes. I understand I'm living in their world now, but this is truly scary...
Please, let me know what can be done, who to call or what you might have done to thin out your pack of coyotes...
Thanks
Valley Center

I am sorry about your cat, but don't leave your pets outside alone I don't live in Valley Center, I live in the City of San Diego, not in a rural area at all, but we have them here too.

A gal I used to work with just had her jack russell tarrier taken by coyotes. Apparently they are very aggressive this year for some reason. She has been trying to contact local news venues to get the word out that people need to be extra careful these days. I don't know what to advise- but definitely spread the word so it doesn't happen to other pet owners.

Yes I learned the first time the coyotes got my cat that he would then become an indoor cat... however he had other ideas and I do beleave that after the second attack the cat has decided also that he is better off as an indoor cat... he hasn't tried to get outside at all since the second attack...

I totally agree, the coyotes do seem pretty aggressive. They also seem to have many more young then normal.

Maybe shoot to scare them away. When we lived in Ramona, oh my, there were so many coyotes all in the valley....so, my husband's friend used the gun and shot one and then we hadn't seen the others coming back for a few days, when we saw some, we shot to scare them away. Best to leave your pets inside the house for the protection.

I'm just wondering if the city or county or BLM would do anything about them.... I did search the internet and found I can hire someone to come out and trap them... but that would cost alot of money... Just don't know what to do. My daughter just told me that Jessica Simpson watch a coyote take her little chihuahua right out of her back yard... it is scary...
Thanks for your post...

You live in a rural area, you will need to learn how to live with the coyotes. The best bet is fencing and keeping your cats indoors.

you are one lucky fellow to have your cat attacked twice by coyotes and survive. Here in AZ they roam the main streets day and night. If they get your pet, forget it, it is gone forever. They run in packs here. Never, never leave an animal outside by itself. We had one coyote in Scottsdale run up to a 5 year old girl in a park and try to drag her away. They are very brazen when it comes to feeding time.
