Anyone got any leads for a place to rent for 9-12 months starting late December or early January?

My wife is moving to her new faculty position at UCSD starting in January (third quarter/second semester) and I will follow after my drug-development fellowship is over (no children). We can afford monthly rental near the beach, if the property is worth it.

We are looking for a >1000 sq.ft. house, townhouse, duplex, or anything with a fenced yard to support our two outdoor, purebreed, geriatric dogs. If you know of anyone who may have a rental that fits our needs, please contact me at john-an@unc.edu.

We will be available / in town from Sept. 23 (Wed) to Sept. 26 (Sat) if you want to meet us. We will be back in early December to survey/finalize any rental offers.

Yes, it is early to look for Dec. rentals, but I don't do things last minute. And yes, we are looking online, but websites, such as Craigslist, has so many scams.

What's your monthly rental budget?

Depends on the location and amenities. We would be happy under $2500/mo.

Bird Rock is a nice place to start your San Diego living:
+ den, Seahaus condo (http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/apa/1369476026.html - broken link)

Seahaus is close to the water, walking distance to the Bird Rock business district, and only a few blocks (still walkable) to North PB's Turquoise St.

I just reread your initial post in this thread. Looking at rentals in September is probably a bit too early for a Dec/Jan move-in. Most landlords/property managers are looking to rent a vacant place within 30 days.

Your best bet is to keep checking on Craigslist.

Agreed, but Pharmboy's wife (yours truly) will feel better knowing I've secured a good rental.

Nice place. I love the location, but no outdoor space for our dogs. I wish I could purchase a house there (Southern La Jolla or Northern Pacific Beach) for less than $600k.

It is very early, but we are trying to plan ahead and put some feelers out. Any aid or assistance is greatly appreciated. We will definitely hit the boards and websites if we don't have a place by December.

I agree with cruitr. Most landlords that post vacancies are looking for a move in ASAP. But you might try contacting some property rental management companies while you're here and keep in touch with them. I seriously doubt if you'll be able to find a rental for Dec/Jan in September, because there won't be any vacancies until November/December for them.
