Nothing wrong with PQ, RB or Poway, but I lived in PQ and worked near UTC and that drive was never under 30 minutes during rush hour. Traffic on the 15 between the 56 and RB is pretty bad at rush hour as well. I'd suggest driving the commute at rush hour before you rent or buy a place. I hated working near UTC just because of it.

The 5 corridor and the 15 corridor between the 56 and Escondido are about the two worst as far as traffic goes. Living in RB would allow you to experience both on a daily basis.

Default 30 min. San Diego commute

I'm also relocating to the San Diego area and am looking to purchase a "little" house within a 30 minute commute of San Diego "downtown". Don't want to be near the beach, don't need to worry about schools(kids are grown). What areas should I be looking at. I loved the foothills, areas like Temecula and Vista. How far East/inland can I go before it gets too hot? I'm coming from Florida and I'm sick of the humidity!!!Don't mind heat though. Any ideas anybody? Thanks!

giendorn...
Depends what you mean by 'too hot.' Alpine is a nice town about 30 minutes east of downtown San Diego. However, many local San Diegans would consider Alpine 'too hot.' Typical summer temps in Alpine are high-80s with some 100+ days.

You need to be more specific as to "little house." How many bedrooms do you want? Do you want a yard or garage? What is your price range? The further inland you go, the hotter it gets. Once you get into El Cajon, Santee, Lakeside, and further, it can go up into the 100's during the summer.
