Where to look for real estate??
hey everyone, my wife and i have finally made it to SD!!!! we have been renting for a few months now and we know that we want to try and buy a home.
i was wondering what are some good cities and neighborhoods to look for a home?
i am pretty handy so i'm not above a foreclosure that needs a bathroom or new flooring ect.
also does anyone know a good realtor to use??

The best realtors specialize by area of San Diego and price range. Where are you looking to buy? What price range?

It's a very strange market. Just don't waste your time on short sales. Go for the ones that are already foreclosed. You can get good deals and the turn around time is much quicker. Always One Percent and Redfin are both good sources for realtors.

Do you want older or newer construction? More urban or are you OK with tract housing in the 'burbs? What's your home price range (not payment, actual house cost)?

I love that site. I still use it every once in a while to look at homes even though my hubby and I bought a house already.

LOL! Me too!!! I LOVE IT! I tell everyone about it. It's really helpful. I like all the features and esp the "birds eye view" one because it has saved us a lot of time in the past at looking a house that looked great but then you realized it's on a super busy road or something like that.

I used ZipRealty to buy my University Heights home in 2002. I find Redfin to be a bit easier to use. Both have "birds-eye" map views (compliments of Bing). As for an agent, most are vultures, so you might want to consider using HomeGain or another site that has some reviews. When I sold, I used Assist2Sell, paid a flat $5k commission (which otherwise would have been $30k).
