Default How much annual income would it take to live comfortably in San Diego with a spouse that would also be working?

With the decrease in housing costs out here lately, I was just curious about this. Is $75,000 realistic? By the way, I don't need or want an answer from anyone who lives in places like Encinitas, Oceanside or San Marcos (since I wouldn't desire to someday live in those places). I would like to hear from the perspective of someone who actually lives in the city itself; i.e. SD proper only. Thanks!

I would also like to add: If your name is "Encinitan" (a.k.a the Uneducated Negative Nancy/Old Man from the sticks that doesn't know what he is talking about), then I most definitely don't want or need another pointless answer from you.

Man it's so relative to the lifestyle you are used to that it's tough to pin down. I lived in San Diego when I was 18 for about 8 months. Made like 800 bucks a month after taxes, had the time of my life with a roommate. Now that I've gotten accustom to certain things, I'd like to make 40ish at a minimum after taxes. Then again, I have no car payment, and so on. Throwing a steadfast number out to you is not really practical.

Any kids and/or large pets in the picture?

If the answer is no, 75k is more than enough.

Depends on lifestyle, of course.
