Type of Conservatisim in San Diego (fiscal vs. Social)

The coastal areas from La Jolla north tends to be fiscally conservative but socially a bit more progressive while east county is die hard socially conservative. The area around dowtown and south county tend to be more progressive in general. That's a big generalization with lots of caveats but generally it holds true.

From reading this thread, I don't think it is a liberal vs conservative thing that SD needs, but more of a change in councilmembers. Seems that the current SD politicians have become too complacent and need to be replaced with younger more proactive members, liberal or conservative.

Not really. Obama specifically said he was against Prop. 8.
