I think the drug culture which is rampant in these places has something to do with it, destroying portions of the pre frontal cortex associated with social behaviours. Maybe we should go back to the 1950s when tobacco was the drug of choice vs. Heroin, pot, and meth today.
I live in Scottsdale, I will tell you a majority of people in Phoenix are friendly, however Scottsdale is not unfriendly its just bunch of LA wannabes which is pretty annoying.
