My girlfriend lost her job recently and she needs to get her wisdom teeth out now. They have been hurting her off and on over the years but now it is getting to the point where it has to be done pretty soon. She went to the dentist and he said it was going to be big money due to some other issues she needs along with it. She has some savings but she has burned through quite a bit so she cannot afford the work she needs. I thought she could maybe go to TJ to get the work done but I do not know anything about dentistry down there. I've done some searching on the net but all I have been able to find are websites that are pretty commercial in nature but not very informative with unbiased info. Has anyone gone down there for care and can give me some advice on it or recommend a good dentist? Or is this just a crazy idea and getting care down there is a really bad idea?

Post this in the Mexico forum. You'll also find lots of information on dentists across the border there. Just make sure that you have a passport or passport card to enter back into the US.

Just be advised, there is no legal recourse if there is a complication.

My thoughts. We lived in NM for 7 years and many people did go across the border for dental care, Yes, they saved a fortune and I have to admit it seemed tempting, but then a few friends had serious problems and they were stuck. With a good referral it might be worth the gamble, otherwise I think I would suffer with the sore wisdom teeth. Sorry, but that is how I feel.

Do not allow the thing to go septic. An infection can turn serious very quickly, so do not waffle on the decision. If she has a heart murmur (mitral valve prolapse) she should get on some strong antibiotics.

There are dental clinics here that go by your income. I wouldn't go to a dentist in TJ without a referral. I have a referral to one, and have been in touch with him. But I can't afford it just it.

Default tijuana dentists

my wife and I just finished treatment in tijuana at a dentist's office just over the border. I had full panoramic x ray, examination and cleaning. my wife had full panoramic xray and examination, 3 complete crowns, 3 root canals, 5 cavities, cleaning, whitening and a specially designed mouth guard. the total bill for both of us was $1600, no kidding. the work was excellent; each procedure by a different specialist, ie, root canal by endodontist, etc. they are extremely caring and friendly and do not want to push services. for example, I need an implant; i have a missing molar since i was 16. the dr told me i could do it if i wanted, but it was not necessary at this point. i am 50. so he said, after so many years it's not a problem any more. so, they are honest. i would highly recommend Dr Arnulfo Vasquez at the Implant Center of the Americas. you will not regret it. you can walk over once you cross the border; it's about 2 blocks from the border. I could not have afforded all this work here in san diego. it would have been impossible for us. i will go back an do the implant. it's $3000 dollars here; there it's $1200-$1300
