My wife and I are currently very strongly considering moving to San Diego from Ohio. I grew up there and have wanted to move back there ever since and she just loves it there. I haven't lived there in 20 years and she's always lived in the Midwest so it would be a big lifestyle change for us.

We're both very drawn to all that San Diego has to offer but I want to make sure we account for as many aspects of such a move as possible before we make a decision. Can anyone who has moved from the Midwest to California (or vice versa) give us some input, suggestions, or thoughts from their perspective?

Also, what areas/neighborhoods of San Diego do you recommend? We have a few kids so areas that are family-friendly are key. I've done some initial looking and have identified a few areas that seem interesting.

Thanks!!

Yes, a job, these days you might want to line one up before you go anywhere. Hey, do you speak spanish? I see that the Hispanic population in your neck of the woods is 1-2 % Here in Mexico, sorry, I mean SanDiego, its atleast 25 %. 30 or more depending on where you live. But dont worry, a few of them might be legal. Make a lot of money? U.S. average cost of living is 100, they say. Where you are its low, just over 80. Here in sunny S.D. its "only" 141! Welcome!(?)

What type of place do you want to live in? Renting or buying? How much do you want to spend? What type of neighborhood do you want? The information you provide, the more we can help.

We'd be looking for a single family detatched home with at least 4 bedrooms. I think we'd rent to begin with until we got a better sense of where we'd like to buy. Price range we're thinking of is between 2500 and 3000 per month.

I too am a mid-westerner relocating to the San Diego area this year. Though I've lived in Florida for the past four years, so the Latin thing isn't new to me. I've spent time between LA and SD, and have actually been pretty surprised to see that, at least in my experience, the Mexico California thing is quite exaggerated.

You want to see Latin America right in your own country, check out Miami.
