Definitely better than the Burger Lounge. That place is a rip!

Obviously I won't be out super late lurking in alleys but in general, on a Friday or Saturday evening prior to, say, 10pm would I be safe walking my dog around the neighborhood?

Also, any other comments or things to be aware of in that part of town? What are the best things and worst things about South Park?

If anyone has an opinion on the dining and bar scene I'd be curious to hear it as well. I know there are several restaurants that have a good following in the area (Big Kitchen, South Park Bar and Grill, Alchemy etc.) Is this an up and coming area or would you say it is declining?

Thanks in advance your help!

Do it! do it! Great area that can only get better (even though it's fine as it is now). Jenkay gave a good rundown on the neighborhood restaurants. Don't forget about Hamilton's and Grant's Market. Not too far to the south of there is Golden Hill with it's own assortment of neighborhood joints like, Krakatoa, Counterpoint, Luigi's and Turf Supper Club. South Park is great place to buy!

okay, since you mentioned burger and cold beer and kid friendly-Tioli's crazee burger-just up the road in what is it considered-north park? is fantastic-truly great burgers, sit down casual, plenty of kids when i've gone (we took our 6 yr old all the time and there were babies, toddlers, etc),and the beer on tap is so so cold. Owner's german, and the SD german club has it's monthly meeting there. Great cold german lagers on tap-bratwurst,burgers,what could be better? we've always had consistenly good food there-burgers are red, pink or done. period. and consistent.

Thanks for all of your very helpful advice. I did put an offer on the house, but I lost to another buyer. I guess cash/investor buyers are pretty common these days in SD and no matter how strong of an offer you make, it's never as strong as 100% cash! I'm going to keep looking and hopefully will find another house in the NP/SP area.
