Default How much has changed in the last 10 years?

Hi guys,
I was at Pendleton for two years (99-01) and went back east after the Marines, and ended up in the NYC suburbs area ever since. Lately I have tossed the idea around of going back in the next few years.

Anyways, my question is how has the area changed for the good and bad? Thanks in advance.

San Diego is still a nice place to live. You cant beat the weather and so many different things to do.
It has gotten more congested in terms of traffic and what not. Home prices have come down quite a bit so now may be a good time. Ive been here 30 years and wouldnt move anywhere else.

You should plan a vacation here and check things out.

Some things to contemplate:

population has doubled
City is broke
State is broke

1AngryTaxPayer is right.

Plus I think there are more Filipinos and Hispanics here than there were 10 years ago.

I referenced San Diego County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce - Hispanic Demographics (http://www.sdchcc.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=22&Itemi d=38 - broken link) to confirm my belief regarding Hispanic population increase.

Overall, just a more diverse place than I remember when I moved here.

- More housing in previously undeveloped areas
- More traffic
- More rudeness

Our famous laid-back lifestyle is slowly slipping into myth, it seems.

In general, too many people from other parts of the US have moved here in the past 10 years. Too many don't share a connection with the city and therefore are quick to trash it, just like driving a rental car or staying in a hotel. You're not invested in it, it's not like home, so you dislike it.
Hell, it's been happening the past 30 years, really. SD changed a lot in the 1980s, never to be the same again. Sad for us natives, but I'll stay.

That is a shame. We share this great country.

I moved away for 12 years and have now been back for two. Can't say I am noticing any major differences. I was back and forth on business over those twelve years so had time to adjust to Kung Food and Blue Door books closing. I'm sure the suburbs have built up more but I'm only there to see my son in Poway so I am not paying so much attention. North Park is a little less down and out, more artsy fashionable but it was heading that way 14 years ago. Can't tell you how the area around Pendleton might have changed. I was only up there to do presentations on the base back in the old days and have not been in that area since moving back.
