My first winter here in Wisconsin which recently just passed was horrible. My car wasn't ready, didn't make it up the steep hill to my studio, so I had to leave it by the side of the road. Then because I was coming from work, I had on business shoes, which had no grip in the snow and ice as I had to climb over a golf course covered in snow on my hands and knees because my shoes wouldn't let me get up the hills to my place!

Talk about annoying as hell. I am coming to SD, come hell or highwater, weather is very important to me. Not to mention the other time where I pulled over on the side of what I thought was an emergency pull over area but it was covered in snow and it was a deep ditch! My car got stuck and I don't have a cell phone (I hate them) luckily a guy in a truck had a tow line he pulled me out.

If you like white-sandy, green, warmer beaches, Tampa. If you like surf and scenery, San Diego. I live in San Diego, but I can tell you that when people criticize Tampa for being redneck, San Diego is, well, similar. Now, it may not be as extreme as Tampa's rednecks, but there are a lot of conservatives from the Midwest and South here, and people are rather fake. It isn't very diverse either. North County is better. More diverse and not as conservative, but better than down in places like La Jolla, etc.

Don't forget how flat and humid Tampa is. San Diego has typically been pretty much a military(active & retired) and working class city even with all the changes occurring in San Diego. Perhaps slightly less so than when I was growing up in San Diego but it's still largely true. That's not a bad thing either. If you want other options live in San Francisco, LA, or Seattle.
