Default 5 acres in the country... are those days long gone?

I am a native Californian who transplanted to Idaho 20 years ago... now that Idaho is so crowded I'm thinking of coming back. Is there anyplace where a girl can get a few acres for children and horses? Deosnt have to be SD. I was in Napa originally but cant afford acres there. Any ideas? Thank you.

There's always the desert. That's about as good as you're going to do in SD county. Rural eastern SD county has the acreage... the question is if you can take living in the hot, rugged conditions.

Default You may still find something in Valley Center

...or Pauma Valley, but there has been so much growth there in the last 5 or so years that it may not appeal to you (traffic, casinos). Mostly still zoned 2 acre minimum.

Your best bet would be to try east of Alpine, or Pine Valley....or out by Campo. There is still acreage around there and that is still horse country. But you will have mostly scrub brush and heat out there, unless you get up in the mountains. You might also have some luck in the Ramona area.

Sadly, because so many people want to come to San Diego most of the open land has been gobbled up by developers. Now, to get open land you have to venture farther east and closer to the desert. Or head north and east of I-15.

Lots of people in San Diego Country Estates up in Ramona have horses. 5 acres may be a stretch, but you can find some 1-2 acre lots up there I believe.

You could also look out in Valley Center beyond Escondido. Now that the market here has cooled way down, there may be some acerage out there from time to time.
