there are some pretty good restaurants in Old Encinitas (west of the 5) and in New Encinitas (east of the 5) and we have just about every fast food and chain that exists, plus some good mom and pop restaurants too. But I'd say the better restaurants are more in the downtown areas.

You can take the Coaster train from the Encinitas station downtown (also stops in Old Town) if you want to explore without having to drive. And if you like baseball, you can take the Coaster downtown to the Padres games too. they are about on a par with the Washington Senators, if you know what I mean but the stadium is right downtown, so there are lots of bars, restaurants, etc. to check out there too.

Whole Foods is going to be in that Pacific Station development on Highway 101 at F street. It's still being built, but they say opening in Spring.

Marinediver, I think you misunderstood the previous poster. The $3.11 for gas was gasoline.

Actually, it has been my experience that gas (natural gas) cooking, heating, hot water, and clothes dryers are substantially cheaper to use than electric. Therefore, an apartment that is run mostly on natural gas is preferable to one with all electric appliances. Though if you do get saddled with all electric appliances, it's my guess that it will probably add only about $40-$60 month to your bills.

Also, don't fret the interracial thing. Whether, conservative or liberal most San Diegans just don't care. The only ones you'll probably have to watch out for are the black women. They might be upset. Pickings are already pretty slim for them if they are sticking only to their own race.

Downtown Encinitas is great. Some decent places to eat along the main drag. And lots of cool cars pass thru there on the weekends.

Encinitas is coastal. As a result, its very expensive. The rule of thumb in Ca. The farther you go from the coast. The more affordable it gets. Someone told me that when i moved to Ca. 10 yrs. ago. And its still true today.
