As with anything It all depends on what you do, USN and Army are clamoring over my brother who is toying with the idea of going in as a Physical Therapist (he is a Doctor of PT). Engineers are always in high demand, especially US citizen engineers who have become increasingly rare in recent decades.

There's a diffference between going in the military and working for the military, but the medical field is in demand. I was never in the military, but I lived and worked in the DC area for most of my life. And of course, the largest employer in DC are the feds. I spent 18 years working for the military, so I know that I can get another federal job, and a clearance. It just takes time, and I'm prepared to wait. I have drafts of all the clearance paperwork that's needed, so I'm prepared for when the time comes.

I have a friend that's retired military, and got a civilian civil service job on one of the bases in VA. He hated the job, started applying again, and it took him 5.75 years to get two offers. One on the same base, the other a promotion in Albuquerue. He accepted the job in Albequerque, but had to pay his own moving expenses. His field is in IT - he's an IT Specialist, 26 of those years were spent doing the job in the AF.
