I'm making this drive later this week and was wondering which was better, the US 93 or US 95 (395)? Is one smoother than the other, safer, less boring? Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for the help...

The "best" route to take is the 5 south to Lindbergh Field, and fly to Boise.

I don't know anything about the US 93. The 395 in California is smooth and safe and reeeaalllly boring! First you'll have to drive through Riverside to reach the 395, and that's never been fun. The traffic lights in Adelanto are horrible - I'm convinced they're timed so that you have to stop at each one.

Rewards along 395 include Galen Rowell's photography gallery, in Bishop. This time of year you should be able to see waterfalls from the hills, if you take the side trip around the June Lake loop. And Mono Lake itself. It runs not far from Mt. Whitney, but you won't be able to see Mt. Whitney from 395 because the foothills are high enough to block that view.

If you continue on 395, you get to drive along strip-mall h*ll through Carson City, Nevada. They do sometimes run a small steam train there, if you're interested in that. You might prefer to instead detour to the roads around Lake Tahoe, but I haven't been on them so someone else might tell you to avoid that.

Getting up into Oregon, 395 gets more scenic. I can't describe it very far into Oregon, though, because we turned off towards Bend at that point.

Google says US93 is much faster:
