I am planning a July vacation to San Diego with my 15 yr old & 12 yr old kids. I lived in San Diego county for four years but I have no clue about which hotels are nice as I never needed a hotel when I lived there.

I want to spend a few nights in Carlsbad. & a few nights in the Mission Bay area. The hotels that I am looking at in Carlsbad are the Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort & the Beach Terrace Inn.

The Mission Bay hotels I am looking at are the Bahia & Pardise Point Resort. I wish I could afford the Catamaran but it's a bit out of my price range.

I need to know if these hotels are family friendly, safe & clean. I would like to stay away from run down hotels & hotels that overcharge for what they offer.

Thanks,
Dawn

Here are two nice hotels on Mission Bay:
San Diego Resorts | Hotels Mission Bay San Diego | Dana on Mission Bay by SeaWorld, San Diego, CA
San Diego Resorts - Hilton San Diego Resort & Spa, CA - California
The Dana has been pretty aggressive with their pricing this year so you might get a good deal there.

The Catamaran is my favorite. What sort of rate did they quote you at the Catamaran?

The Hilton in Mission Bay is one of the best hotels for those with kids. I always tell people with kids to stay there when they visit, and they love it. Nice pool, close to the playground, tons of water activities, and very centrally located to all the attractions.

Thanks for the suggestions!! The Catamaran quoted $356 for a bayview room with two double beds. Normally that would not be a problem but for this trip, I am trying to stay around $200-$230 per night due to the number of nights we will be needing a hotel.

$356 does sound like a lot for the Catamaran. Must be a holiday weekend.

For that place and that price, they should include a catamaran in your trip that you can take home to keep.

LOL, true but I have found that anything close to the water (bay or ocean) is going to be pricey. I should have know that but I was hopeing to find a deal. What I find funny is these really run down hotels right on the beach in North County that charge over $400 a night.

There was a guy on here a couple of weeks ago who got a good deal on Priceline: www.priceline.com

Maybe that's the way to go.
