I'll be staying at the Manchester Hyatt near Seaport Village for about a week with NO car. Are there any affordable and/or reasonable good places to eat that would be within walking distance, safely? Would a taxi be too expensive? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!! How about take-out delivery for that area -- suggestions?

You are a short walk to Gaslamp: http://www.gaslamp.org/
Dozens of good bars and restaurants. A great place to walk in the evenings.

The Manchester Hyatt is a very nice hotel. Great location on the bay.

The area around your hotel is safe and as cruitr pointed out, there are many places to eat and drink that are within walking distance. Coronado can be reached by ferry and Hillcrest is only about a $7 cab ride away. You can always jump on the trolley and take it to Old Town, too.

Check out Yelp and just search what you are looking for. Have fun!

Check out Anthony's Fishette just past the huge Midway navy ship that you can tour. Also I like Waterfront grill for plain ol' bar food... May be quite a walking distance though. Lots of places to eat in the Gaslamp, although food can be pricey. (Seaport Village food is expensive too) I would say if it is nice, walk around and check out the downtown area You can sometimes barter a price with the Bike taxi guys too!

Kansas City BBQ is directly across the street from the Hyatt. The bar scenes from Top Gun (the 80s movie) were filmed in KC BBQ. Here's their website: Kansas City Barbeque - San Diego

As mentioned above, Anthonys' Fish Grotto is pretty nice: Anthonys Fish Grotto

Otherwise, walk around Seaport Village, it's a quaint shopping district with 4 or 5 small eateries (accept cash only) and about 3 larger, full service restaurants. Seaport Village Watch out for Harbor House: it's quite expensive.
