Default Imperial Beach

Hey I'm a college student from Miami. Thinking about moving to Imperial Beach sometime after I graduate. Is this a good place to live? It seems a little cheaper than other parts of San Diego. I'll be living on my own, don't mind a studio and don't mind if the community isn't extremely wealthy, although I'd like to stay away from a complete hole.

I have some friends that live there. I've never felt unsafe and I've been down Palm ave. at all hours of the night, but it's not very visually appealing. I may get flamed, but Palm ave. looks like LA to me. You'll find a lot of young folks live there, especially marines with the base so close. I think it's got some places that are quite fine, and some pretty gross places, but if you find a nice place, it's safe enough. No real "stay away from this block" that I know of. Some people would say that all of South Bay is a hole, and although you aren't going to find any really rich people in IB, if you lock your car and house when you leave, you're ok. The bonus (if you're inclined) is that hopping over to TJ is literally hopping over!
