Beautiful spacious 2 story home with master suite on ground floor. (http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/apa/1731285051.html - broken link)

My husband stumbled across this one and we thought it might be a typo. Just curious to know why it would be so low. Any thoughts?

Because it's probably a scam.

The fact that there is no phone number is somewhat of a red flag - but the price isn't "that" low considering the area (Escondido), which is known generally for lower prices.

I would email the poster and ask them why the rent is lower than comparable houses that are for rent in San Diego County. Their answer will tell you for sure if it's a scam. I would not just assume based on the price though - apartments in Esco are as low as $800/month, so I find the price right at the border of acceptable for the area, honestly.

$1200 for a house that looks like that has to be impossible.

800/month for a 1-bedroom would be acceptable, but 1200/month for a 3100 sf house is definitely a scam.

In fact, I'm going to say that fair market rent for a house like that would be closer to 2500, unless there's something seriously wrong with the location (for example, it backs up against the freeway).

I would say it is a scam, they will be looking for a deposit to "hold" it, or what not. They could have just stolen the pics and posted them. the other possibility is it is in the process of forclosure and they want some quick money. Next think you know the Sherriff's Office is coming out with an eviction notice. Is this something that happens in California (it does where I live)?
