Reading a lot on this forum about University City. Is that the same as UTC?

Strictly speaking, UTC is the name of the mall in University City. The name is often used to describe the adjacent communities.

Look at the map. University City, also known as the Golden Triangle, is bounded by freeways 5, 805, and 52, minus a few blocks along Sorrento Valley Road and Roselle Street. (That's the official definition. Some communities west of the 5, including the university itself, are very close to University City in spirit.) UTC in the most general sense of the word is the subset of University City north of Rose Canyon and the railroad.

Neither should be confused with University Heights, which is a very different area about ten miles away. I'm not quite sure why University Heights are called such, because there are no universities there or in their vicinity.

There is a stone and marble sign that reads "welcome to University City" on Genesee Ave. across from Scripps Hospital.

The San Diego Normal School, the original San Diego state university, was located at the intersection of El Cajon Boulevard and Park Boulevard until it relocated to it's current location on Montezuma Mesa. A few of the ancillary buildings from the once-monumental structure still exist on the campus of the SDUSD district headquarters adjacent to Alice Birney elementary. Hence the names of Normal Heights and University Heights.

So after reading so many discussions, University City seems to come up a lot in a positive light. Honestly, it wasn't even on my radar in terms of areas because I'd never really heard of it, but now it is. Can anyone direct me on what are the better elementary schools, or is there only one?

University City has two public elementary schools:
Spreckels Elementary School - San Diego, California - CA - School overview
Curie Elementary School - San Diego, California - CA - School overview

I live in Clairemont (just south of University City) and one of my neighbor's kids go to Spreckels.

University City is the late mid-century version of Poway or Scripps Ranch today. The homes are large by San Diego standards, mostly 4 bedroom. The location is superior and schools are above average if not top-notch. A similar area albeit more inland is Del Cerro.
