Actually I mean small as in the physical size of Downtown SD compared to those other cities. Having been to Houston, I can tell you that it is certainly much bigger than SD's. It's like a city within a city. Houston has an area of downtown called "uptown" which looks like another seperate skyline in itself, but is really still part of downtown.

As for ATL, one of my good friends is from there originally and said that it is much bigger than SD's in square milage (he didn't give me an exact figure though). My boss at work actually lives in downtown SD and was telling me that it is only 2.5 square miles.

I will say though, downtown SD does look MUCH bigger than it really is at a distance.

San Diego's downtown is miniscule - about a square mile. Downtown LA, despite having much fewer tall buildings - goes on and on an on with warehouses and industry.
