Hi all,

would be most appreciative of some help! We are relocating to Bay Area and are finding homes and neighborhoods and prices we like to Alameda and in San Jose - the issue, my job is in Foster City. I keep getting mixed reports - what am I really looking at for a commute?

Many thanks in advance!

They're both very unreliable, temperamental, and unpredictable commutes. Everyone knows that 880 is a bear, but I have experience with 101 and it can be just as finicky. The reason why you're getting mixed reports is probably because it can be different every day. It also depends on what part of San Jose you're going to. If you have to take 87, you're going to be sitting a lot. If your route takes you over 237 into the North Valley, that's pretty slow too, though it helps you avoid the worst of the 101 backup. If you're headed to Evergreen, like me, that's the worst. It's just bottleneck after bottleneck, and a very frustrating drive..

thats sort of what I was afraid of....

are we talking about maybe 1 to 1.5 hours? is the caltrain from San Jose and then shuttle to FC an option? I've read about this, but not really found anyone that actually does it.

For Alameda - I suppose one could do the ferry to SF and then BART and then shuttle, but it's a lot of connections that might be missed.

Maybe need to keep looking for towns around FC!

I do Oakland to Belmont in 45 minutes, so I don't think it would take you more than an hour with the Alameda option.
