Default Oakland A's new stadium / Relocation

I'm out in NYC, and just curious if there is any local news or rumors about if the A's will be getting a new stadium in Oaklnd or if they will move for the third time.

I know San Jose has dropped out, but any local news about their situation? I live in NY, and have always respected and enjoyed the A's for the complete opposite way they run their franchise compared to the shopping spree like Yankees & Mets, who seem to alwys be in the hunt for the annual top free agents.

San Jose hasn't dropped out, they just agreed not to put it on the ballot yet. It seems to me probable that they will eventually move there, once they come up with a way to appease the Giants. The city of SJ seems to want it, and so does the A's ownership--MLB managed to appease Angelos to get the Nats in DC, so I'm sure they can do it with San Jose and the Giants.

However, I still hear murmurs about a new stadium in Oakland. But that's been happening for many years now, so I don't put much stock into it.

No one should give it much thought. Oakland has a hard time attracting any private investment of any sort, especially for a baseball team that can't put butts into seats.

^ Don't mind him. He hasn't been to the Bay Area since Bell Bottoms went out of style and just takes pot shots at Oakland any chance he gets.

Well considering the closest I have been to the bay area in my life was when I got my DVD copy of "Rebels of Oakland: The Raiders, The A's, The 70's" LOL

for some reason I have always been drawn to the Raiders & A's, even though I grew up in Yankees & Giants territory...lol

I guess it was because as a kid I was a big Canseco/McGwire fan and I just always though the Raiders logo and uni was cool...LOL

No, San Jose has dropped out. They have spun it like they are waiting, but the simple fact is that the Giants will not ever sell their rights to the South Bay. They draw too many fans from the 408 and will never allow the A's to move there.

Do you like the Warriors too? If I had to rank my Bay Area teams, Warriors would probably come first with the A's and Raiders to follow.

Maybe you should move out here!

Back to your OP, though, the truth is that most people see Oakland's plans to revitalize Jack London Square or via Uptown as the A's most realistic option. The truth is also that this is really far away. My guess is that in the next 2-3 years the A's will make another consistent playoff run and will remind the powers that be why keeping them in Oakland is important and will help further the cause to keep them here.

Just my guess.

If Oakland gets a JLS stadium in the next 10 years, playoff run or not, I'll personally give $5000 to everyone who post in this thread.

The most recent thing I've heard is a proposal to build it near the 5th Street Terminal project down by the waterfront. I don't think it has any traction in this fiscal environment, especially since the business model for stadiums is to use public funds to subsidize sports owners and teams. Oakland is still paying Al Davis and the Raider franchise 10 million a year for the lack of luxury box seat sales, thanks to the contract worked out by Ignacio De La Fuente, our cracker jack city councilman.
