Cool it ain't "San Fran"

In pretty much every topic where a non-Bay Area resident asks about San Francisco, they call it "San Fran."

I don't know why, but nobody here calls it that. Or "Frisco." So if you think we do, we don't! I don't usually consider myself a snob, and I didn't grow up here, but there is something sort of weird to see people call it that.

So do what you want, but people here call it San Francisco or the City, and if they're typing it they'll type "SF."

Some people here will give you a hard time if you call it "San Fran" or "Frisco," but by and large people won't care but you are setting yourself up for some mild ribbing.

Other demographics call it "Frisco" all the time, but why would someone in Rockridge ever come into contact with such peoples...

When San Francisco is a mouth full, we call it SF.

San Fran doesn't sound right to me either. Saaaan Fraaaan. Sounds like some squaky parrot trying to do east coast talk.

I can see how people outside use San Fran endearingly though- but the people who live here generally don't find it charming.

And Frisco is more appropriate to use if you are a hip hopper- naw mean?

I say the whole thing (San Francisco) and so do the people I know who are from San Francisco. It's just not that hard!

I've referred to it as "Frisco". I know some folks in San Francisco object to that, but it seems pretty silly to me to find this a bother.

I was born and raised in Philadelphia, and we don't care if folks call it Philly.

Any city with more than two syllables would seem to get a nickname.

LMAO @ squaky parrot. I've always referred to it as the city and had no problem saying San Francisco. Then again, I'm one of the few left that have no problem pronouncing multi-syllable words lol.

It's just like New Yorkers don't say "The big apple".
