Hi,
I just accepted my dream job at a hospital in Stockton ( FYI jobs for New grad nurses are scarce in the Bay Area) . I will be working 7pm-7am. I currently live in Oakland. The day time commute take an hour with no traffic. The opposite traffic seems to be brutal.

Does anybody know how long it takes to get to Stockton from Hayward in evening rush hour traffic and vise versa?

Since I assume that it will take longer than an hour I wanted to get some feedback on where I could move for a better commute.

I really dont want to move to Stockton. We have 2 young children and most of our family is in Oakland area. We do have some family in the Antioch/Pittsburg area (Hwy 4) so anybody know how long it would take to get to Stockton from there.

Thanks

There's no commute-hour traffic towards Stockton because there are no jobs there, except for yours apparently! Whether you were taking Hwy 4 or I-580, it shouldn't be much of an issue.. Brentwood and Oakley are closer to Stockton, and have lower crime than Pittsburg or Antioch. Some people actually live there for the access to Vasco Road so they can enjoy the low housing costs of the Hwy 4 corridor without having to deal with the Hwy 4 traffic.

I commute to stockton from oakland for a class a few nights per week. If you were commuting from Oakland to Stockton, I would suggest to get on the 580 freeway before 3pm, as the Pleasanton / Walnut Creek (580 / 680 interchange area) starts to bottleneck pretty bad. However, on your commute home in the early a.m. - you'd catch a bit of a headache . . . so, if you're willing to stay in stockton until 10am - you'd be smooth sailing.
