Yes, but while Beverly Hills is located in West LA, Montclair is right next to Oakland. Big difference.

Good gawd, the OP never mentioned or asked for a comparison to Southern California or LA/San Diego. Oakland need not be mentioned.

These threads are getting weirder by the day..

Anyway, the OP asked about WALNUT CREEK and the Regency apartments.

Walnut Creek is a very nice place. It's an upper middle class/wealthier suburb that's got a lot more going on than the average suburb. There's a really nice downtown area with both chain style restaurants and big upscale shopping areas as well as another area of all independently owned shops/restaurants/bars.

The apartments you're thinking about are not in the "prime" area of Walnut Creek--not that the area is bad, just in an area where there has been a recent uptick in crime. That's all. They aren't unsightly or trashy looking either, nor is the place crawling with suspicious looking people (but I might be wrong since I don't live there!). Spend a little more and get something with a better reputation.

Walnut Creek has tons of apartment complexes. I can't name specific ones since I don't rent.

I found this website that looks somewhat helpful. I pasted the review for the Regency apartments--they don't look too great from the reviews! Good luck with the search.

...Park Regency Apartments Ratings, Reviews, Map, Rents, and other Walnut Creek apartments for rent from ApartmentRatings.com

Lived in WC for 7 years, and loved it. Just spent a 4 day weekend Northern California, and stayed at the Marriot in WC. Spent a lot of time walking around the area with family who were from the East Coast. They LOVED it, and couldn't believe how nice it is. WC has a lot of history, a lot of charm, and I'd say, outside of San Francisco, most people come to WC for shopping and eating out. Don't know what happened with the rapist, but that can happen anywhere. There are sickos everywhere in the country, and can happen in any nice area. Some of these sickos are can look like normal everyday neighbors, so to take potshots at Walnut Creek and to think it's unsafe just because of this isolated case, is kind of childish to do. It's like saying if there is a murder in Beverly Hills, it's an unsafe area. Not true, and same for Walnut Creek.

Agreed. Walnut Creek is one of the safest and wealthiest communities in the Bay Area. It's not like it has years of entrenched crime like Oakland, Richmond or other cities.

Why are you bringing up Oakland, Richmond or other cities when he's asking about Walnut Creek? Why? What is your reason other than trolling for more arguments.

It's to give the OP a point of comparison. He's not familiar with the Bay Area. I'm not a troll like you Uptown, you've been thrown off this forum what... like 52 times?

I worked in Walnut Creek for a year. I thought it was alright. Its in my opinion a tad far from the immediate Bay Area. My commute to and from Berkeley was AWFUL because you have to go through the Caldecot tunnel and traffic turns into a real bottleneck. Its sort of a weird mixture of semi-rich and older folks and lacks a lot of the diversity you'd find elsewhere. Perhaps a bit more conservative. Otherwise Its actually pretty nice in many respects. Its a little cheaper for housing and renting ( for reasons I mentioned above- primarily its distance from the immediate Bay Area)

Downtown is sort of hoity-toity and parking sucks. Restaurants are ok. Lots of chains. It gets a lot hotter in the summer too.

I bolded your last sentence, because this may be a good thing for some people. For the thousands of posts I've seen by people complaining about San Francisco's cold summers in here, the hotter summers are a selling point. I loved Walnut Creek because of that. I'd say heat wise, there are probably only 5-10 summer days where I'd say, "Damn it's too hot out", the rest were very bearable. Coming from NYC, I loved the summers in WC, especially because of the lack of humidity.

I also enjoyed the commute, because I took the BART to SF for work. Once again, coming from NYC, the commute via mass transit seemed short and pleasant. It really is dependant on how people adapt to certain areas. I loved SF and WC right off the bat. And still love them, so commuting and weather were never an issue for me.
