Hey guys, could you please suggest few good, family friendly(safe) places to rent an apartment/house in between Emeryville(Novartis) and Palo Alto (Roche). The commute for both of us should be reasonable.
Thanks in advance

Fremont or Union City you're looking for an hour commute either direction. Also, sounds silly, but you might want to define what you think family friendly is. To some it's having great schools and to others it's where there are tons of kids.

For me family friendly means a safe neighbourhood where you could walk a dog safely. We do not have kids yet so things like school etc do not matter at all. Can you provide your insights.

Palo Alto, Menlo Park (west of 101), Atherton, most of Redwood City, San Carlos, Belmont, most of San Mateo, Foster City, Redwood Shores, Union City, Hillsborough and Fremont. Even the parts that might seem sketchy in these towns are relatively safe.

In terms of affordability though Union City and Fremont are best, I would say Fremont near the BART station or near Central Park would be you're best bet in terms of a good safe neighborhood.

I am looking for a place in Union City, Fremont, Newark area too. Any insight of area to avoid? I had a look the west side of UC (west 880) the neighborhood is not upkeep, should i avoid, but the house price is more affordable than the east side (close to Bart). Greatly appreciate.
