Not really true. Oakland is pretty much the only city in the east bay that has low income housing. Tier by tier, Oakland housing isn't that far off of the surrounding cities. El Cerrito, Berkeley, and Albany and Oakland have pretty similar prices in equivalent neighborhoods. And those cities are most like Oakland in terms of housing stock and density.

We understand, some of you hate Oakland and think it is a "cesspool." Your opinion wasn't requested in this thread. People post "love" or "like" about cities all over the message boards for all kinds of cities, this is no different.

Umm actually it is true.

Berkeley Median Condo/SFR prices: $752,200
Albany Median Condo/SFR prices: $634,967
El Cerrito Median Condo/SFR prices: $629,874
Oakland Median Condo/SFR prices: $541,900

I don't really care if you guys want to throw three cheers for Oakland, but BayDude's point is valid and backed by the stats, and overall logic. If an area is great to live in, real estate values will 99% of the time reflect that reality.

Actually you do care because you're in every Oakland thread trolling for attention and arguments. Your pathetic life revolves around negativity with Oakland and the fact that people like it sets off your troll alert and makes you come to the forum and giggle about going back and forth with people about this. Why are you even in this thread? Nobody is asking about Oakland advice so your pointless trolling is even less pointless in here than it usually is.

Dude, trashing Oakland is your only reason for posting here.

The ONLY one.

I don't think I've trashed Oakland in this thread. I saw a post in the thread I agreed with, and simply commented. I don't get the defensive, hyper sensitivity. It's amusing, but completely irrational. I guess there is some validity to the idiom, "The truth hurts."

I love how a thread that is started by someone who just wants to let people know that they liked their hometown of Oakland and that they miss living there turns into an Oakland-bashing thread. It is getting really tiresome hearing the same few people bash Oakland over and over again, especially in threads that do not warrant it at all.

Mr. Fantastic needs to be banned. Period, if you look at any forum on CD he goes to he gets in arguments and people call him a troll. It's classic message board trolling.

Remember the concept of Tiers. Well Oakland had quite a bit more cheap housing than everyone else. I don't have the time to go and compare housing prices for middle class neighborhoods for Oak/Albany/El Cerrito/Berk. But those prices are the same. Median isn't helpful in this case since Oakland has way more homes under $200k than those similar cities. And far more condos. Albany/El Cerrito/Berkeley do not have equivalent neighborhoods to the ones with under $200k prices. A better comparison: if you spend $600k, $800k or $1M, what do you get? Are they pretty close? How about $400k?
