There are 34 3+ bedroom houses under $50k on Redfin right now. I think these are pretty good candidates for the cheapest places to live in the Bay Area.

Somewhere like Brentwood or Antioch would be some of the cheapest places in the bay area. They are cheap because they are so far away from San Francisco or Silicon valley.

Some posts have mentioned rentals. What if you want to buy the bottom, which keeps falling each year since 2007... the cheapest single family homes are in Vallejo in the 60 to 100 thousand range. Try these parameters:

Gilroy isn't the Bay Area. Morgan Hill hardly qualifies.

Locals typically call that area South County, not South Bay, for what it's worth.

Pleasanton, Brentwood, Vallejo, Fairfield, or Antioch. If you don't mind living outside of the bay by a bit then there's Tracy, Stockton, and Modesto. Tracy is the closest of the three.

Its not a technicality, its true. Santa Clara is one of the three hearts of the bay area, alongside with Alameda and San Francisco IMO.

Pleasanton is cheap? That's news to Pleasanton.
