Hey, I cant call it.

A stadium in Jack London would put the A's in the same conversation as the Giants, in terms of stadium sites, of course.

Jack London Square ALREADY offers:

•Waterfront site; where investors have recently poured 3 billion dollars into.
• Marinas
• Freeway
• AC Transit routes
• Walkable distance from B.A.R.T
• restaurants
• retail shops
• offices
• green parks
• clubs/bars
• Hotels
• apartments
• condominiums
• possible view of the Oakland Hills
• possible view of the Oakland Estuary
• possible view of the Oakland Skyline

Plus, what the development of what the stadium would bring.

• More offices
• More restaurants
• More retail shops
• More housing
• More clubs/bars
• More green parks
• More people

Likewise, also exactly how the crowd was at Candlestick Park in San Francisco before the Giants got their new stadium.

Some context for you: The A's outdraw the Giants by 2,495 fans per game in this decade in the Coliseum vs the final decade of the Giants at Candlestick. Moral of the story: Having an ugly stadium in the middle of a good-for-nothing neighborhood with zero amenities isn't good for business.

This pretty much puts that concern to rest.

Oakland City Council President Jane Brunner said work on an environmental impact report for a new stadium near the Lake Merritt Channel on a site known as Victory Court (click here for a map) keeps Oakland in the game.

“We’re still in conversation with Major League Baseball, and we are keeping our options open to keep talking to them,” said Brunner. “They have a certain date they want a new stadium by.”

Plans for New Oakland Ballpark Still Alive - The Bay Citizen
This is promising.

MLB wouldnt even be engaged in dialogue at this point if they didnt believe that there was a viable site in Oakland.

At the end of the day, I believe the MLB KNOWS that San Jose belongs to the Giants and its more profitable to keep the South Bay as Giants territory.

Secondary to that is the East Bay suddenly being in limbo under an A's relocation to the South Bay.

It seems like a move to San Jose creates more problems as far as fan base than it does solutions.

2,495 is a statistical blip, and means nothing. Also you're comparing a giants team that only had Barry Bonds for 6 of those 10 seasons, and wasn't a true world series contender yet.

Better context for you: Cleveland, a city that also thought a new stadium would rejuvenate their baseball team's attendance issues spent millions building one. It didn't solve the problem.

a. Oakland doesn't want to pony up funds for stadium construction and will only spend on land
b. The City of Oakland doesn't want to rejuvenate their attendance numbers, just the neighborhood
c. A new stadium in Fremont, Oakland, San Jose have the same problem: how do I re-engage jaded fans. Staying in Oakland gives the A's a head start, as A's attendance has been high sometimes. Fielding a playoff team would also make a big difference. The biggest reason I do not go to the A's games is because the stadium isn't as fun as PacBell Park. I am not a baseball fan, but if I am going to bother it should ne a fune experience with good food. The A's could be a destination sports event too with a better stadium. That doesn't mean MLB should be the one footing the bill

a. Never said they would, and why would they? The city is $32,000,000 in the hole.

b. Wrong. Of course they want to improve attendance numbers, that's direct revenue. That's like saying this guy wants the wagon, but not the horse, it doesn't make any sense. Why do you think the JLS stadium was such a big topic until they finally realized private investors wouldn't throw their money away on it? JLS isn't exactly crumbling and crime infested like the rest of Oakland.

c. Agreed with most points, but I don't see the A's becoming a non-welfare team in Oakland.

b. Let me clarify. The city's job is done once the stadium gets there (besides basic public infrastructure stuff). After that it is all the MLB's job to make it successful. If there is a stadium, everything else is gravy and there will be direct and indirect benefits. New housing, new neighborhood and so on.

Yea but that eye sore is literally right on the freeway. If they build that eyesore, I'll be able to throw a beer can from my car into left field when heading home from a giants game.
