Snow (Stockton, Orange, Tracy: how much, casinos, farms)

Looking for a place to play in the snow and go sledding with young kids. Are there any places within 1 or 2 hours from the east bay? Kid-friendly recommendations would be appreciated.

From the East Bay, head for Stockton than take either Hwy 88 or 4 from Hwy 99 east towards the Sierras. Or take Hwy 120/108 from Manteca and head east. This might take more than 2 hours. There are ski areas on all three of these highways.

No getting to the sierras from the bay will take you 4-6 hours depending on traffic. Id recommend looking to kirkwood or up towards truckee, away from tahoe. All the people from the bay seem to flock to tahoe like robots/sheep (probably due to the casinos) and it gets really crowded, rowdy, and played out as a result. Best idea is to look for places more off the beaten path.

LOL you just can't go a day without some cheap shot at the Bay Area huh? I can't imagine you have any friends at all.

It depends on what you consider the East Bay. Here is a great place I have been taking my family for years, its real close to the Bay Area and not as crowed as the Tahoe/Truckee ski areas. Also if your looking for close any place just past Jackson, Arnold, Sonora. Hwy 88, 4 and 120 are your best bets.

Its is nice just like all the other places I mentioned. However with all my other choices I don't get there during the winter. Have fun!

Depending on how much you really want to play in the snow or just go sledding, there is an artificial sledding hill near the intersection of I-580 and Highway 120 between Tracy and Manteca. It has a whole lot of other "attractions". They have a big pumpkin maze during October and November and the sledding hill looks like fun for kids (and safe) they also have an ice skating rink no less!
