Hello,

I was planning to visit LA this week, but have instead decided to travel to San Francisco. This will be my first time in the city and I'd like to know what districts will be ideal for me to visit for inexpensive clothing and fabrics. I will be staying in the Union Square and area and will in the city from Thursday to Sunday.

Much Thanks!

Depends on what you want. There are a lot of thrift stores here, check out Crossroads which is a more upscale one, they do resold clothes which tend to be better quality than what you see at most thrift stores, and it's not really that expensive.

For new stuff, Marshall's and Ross are across the street from one another and are pretty cheap, they are really picked over though. There is a new-ish H&M near Union Square you could check out. Overall I don't think SF has much of a cheap clothes scene in terms of independent places, there are some boutiques here and there but they can be pricy.

As for fabrics, there are some fabric stores in the Mission which probably can't be beat for prices.
