Smile Mother (38), 2 kids (3 and 5), 1 dog is looking for ohter mothers to meet in the Bay area

I have moved to San Mateo from Munich 4 months ago and I am still looking for nice Mothers to hang out with, to meet with the kids, to do interesting things.
I have already met a lot of mothers in the pre school of my kids, but most of them are always soooo busy and have hardly any time left.

My husband works a lot and as I will get my work permit not earlier than February, I am a full-time mother at present. I am open, outgoing and love to meet new people here. I also would like to find some friends for my kids. The kids who live around us, are in full-time day cares and have also no time to meet.

I love to do all different kinds of things. Going to the museum (of course where kids have fun too), going to the beach, going to the playground, cycling my bike, walking with my dog, explore the nature, going to nice, good restaurants (but I also enjoy Mc Donalds ).

So please contact me, if you feel similar!
If you want to make friends with a German woman with 2 kids
If you just need someone to talk (not always about kids, schools and families)
If you just want to go out to have fun (without husbands and kids)

My wife and I would meet many parents just hanging out in the San Mateo Central park, you just have to be outgoing because the people tend to be insular in that area.

I agree that you need to be very outgoing...

My sister-in-law has a natural talent for this... she is always involved organizing kids activities... whether it was volunteering at the coop pre-school, coaching her 5 year old daughter's soccer team... etc.

By the way welcome to California... I've spent a fair amount of time in and around Munich and really love the area... I've lived in Salzburg right after graduation and had a great time working there.

Many of my European friends love to visit the States but none would really ever consider making a permanent move... even knowing Bay Area winters do not include snow

In the 1970s, my mother was in the same position. We had just moved here from Germany and my brother and I were little kids. She had a hard time meeting people in our Lafayette neighborhood, but she joined a "newcomers' club" (not sure if they even have those anymore) and got into a tennis circuit, went on planned daytrips, and met nice people that way who were all from different places. In those days, California was still really low-key and people lived a slower pace.

But I agree, meetup.com is good, or find some other local groups to join based around your interests. Between outdoor activities, churches, and hobbies, there should be something for everyone.

I would also drive down to Mountain View, go to Dittmer's Wursthaus (the German butcher) and ask them how to get involved in the German community in the area. There are surely other German immigrants who have gone before you and can offer advice and maybe even introduce you to more non-German people.

Ich wuensche Ihnen viel Spass in ihrem neuen kalifornischen Zuhause! Sicherlich wird im Sommer die erste begeisterte Verwandschaft angetanzt kommen.
