Well you know, that's really all one can ask for. That's what cool about you, you're practical and you don't get crazy when I pick on you at times.

Good lord, the Bay Area produces some of the most smug, arrogant people on the face of the planet. There's nothing wrong with loving this place and being proud to be from/live here, I am, but some people here just take it to a new level and it's absolutely nauseating at times. Anyone remember KPIX's old tag line "The Best Place for News in the Best Place on Earth"? I wanted to throw up every time I heard that. Some people here need to really get over themselves and realize this place isn't the end all, be all. Second most influential place in the country? haha, give me a break. I love it here in the Bay Area but get real already.

You're definitely not being smug or arrogant in this post are you.

I don't know what it is about the Bay Area but a lot of people from the Bay Area on the internet always act really negative about everything, then any time the Bay Area is discussed online it attracts old farts from other states and parts of CA who hate the Bay Area because they watch too much Fox News, and you get a big swirling feedback loop of obnoxious negativity. I really don't see this happen with other parts of the US when they're discussed online.

I participate in other city forums too. I think you may be onto something; you can like the Bay Area as long as you're quiet about it. Don't dare talk about it. There have been threads and remarks in the Seattle forum stating how great Seattle is and/or what one may like about it. I started a thread a while back in the LA forum for those who like LA. There's a thread in the San Diego forum which it titled something to the effect of "you're lucky to live in San Diego". Minus a few negative trolls here and there in those forums, at no time did anyone have to defend their reasoning for liking those areas as much as Bay Area people do, ok Seattle a little bit.

I've decided that the negative remarks aren't going to change how I feel about the places I love so if it makes some feel better to spend their time harping on us, let them. It'll only further my pride in being from there and make me glad I'm not where ever they are.

Come on guys, we just need one more "San Francisco invented the ....." comment and we'll have turned into 7x7 Magazine!

Seriously, when I first moved here my born and bred in San Francisco sister-in-law asked if we had Casual Fridays back on the East Coast too. Cause, you know, it was invented here.

Hilarious, considering you're from the bay area and are one of the most smug and arrogant people on City Data, step back and look at your response hypocrite. Sounds to me like you're describing yourself.

And how am I being smug and arrogant? I'm not talking about myself at all, not talking about how I think I'm above or better than others, not saying I'm superior. If describing some other people's attitude here is smug and arrogant in your book, then so be it.

Go into any of the other forums and you find negativity. Go spend some time in the LA or Miami forums and see how much negativity is there. Also when you have threads like "Texas Sucks, California Rules", that's gonna attract people from other places no matter what forum its in. You have one or two people who come in here and rag on Oakland all the time, which people always take the bait too, but other than that this forum is not that different.

Yes people start "What do you love about SD, Seattle, LA?" etc.. threads but they don't involve stuff about how much better the country is because of them, how much worse the country would be off without them, all the things they invented on why the country should bow down to them, etc.. SOME people in the Bay Area take it to whole new level. And you all know this is true too whether you actually have the balls to admit it. The Bay Area has that reputation for a reason. And if it makes you feel better I do think that vast majority of people here are perfectly fine, just the Bay Are has some annoying vocal minorities that stick out.
