And this would be the umpty-umph thread begun by blacks regarding racism. What are y'all, a freakin' tag team? Concentrate on making your lives better! In this country the glass is still half full.
Oh yeah! For the record. I truly believe that political correctness has done and continues to do this country significant harm when compared to the bit of good it's done in some isolated areas.
I agree. Political correctness has done significant damage to our country. It breeds resentment and contempt. I also believe that many are using the accusations of racism as an excuse to behave badly, or to cover for their inability to take responsibility for their own failures. What makes me laugh is that so many of those screaming "racism" are pointing the finger at the wrong people. There is a lot of inequality going on in this country and it ISN'T being directed at people of color!

Appropriate ::::smooches:::: from an also happily married grandfather of nine (blended family)!
Fairly easy. Whites have been governmentally and societally forced to knuckle under to the sickness that is rampant political correctness. Other races have jumped on the band-wagon of racism and exploited it.
So you\'re saying cries of racism are fake. What do you consider \"political correctness\"
I would agree, and as far as majority here aren\'t we talking about the bay area. Whites are barley a majority, out of all my time spent living in working in the bay area I have found that the most racist people I have met were in fact minorities.
So now this thread is about the Bay Area minorities are racist and whites are the innocent victims. Right.
A lot of people that benefit from affirmative action are newly arrived immigrants. How on earth were they ever "historically shut out" if they never even lived here? And most people that reap the rewards of affirmative action today were born in the 70\'s, 80\'s and even 90s, just how exactly were they ever "historically shut out"?
I guess you think there are no such thing as lingering affects of historical racism. It doesn\'t matter if they are immigrants or not an African Immigrant is still seen as black. An Asian Immigrant is still seen as Asian, A woman immigrant is still a woman. So because they were born in the 70s, 80s, or 90s, you think there is no more racism? That makes no sense at all. Too many people do cry wolf and blame others for their lack of motivation and situations but that does not change the fact racism is still alive and well.

I should have been more clear. I'm not talking absolute numbers but percentage-wise. I know it sounds ridiculous but I really don't think it is. Again, I'm not saying this is cold hard fact. I've lived in almost all white areas and beside a few stares from certain types of people, no real issues. I've lived in almost all black neighborhoods and there was some resentment toward whites from some but not most people. Today I live in an area that's predominantly Hispanic and Asian and anti white sentiments are higher here than in any other situation I've been in. it's the same when I work with the above demographics too. This doesn't prove anything, just my observations.

Simple! An "inability" to say it as it is lest you inadvertently challenge some weak person's tender sensibilities. Regardless of the expiration of the laws, affirmative action, the most racist program ever and the most insulting to minorities, still prevails under cover in all too many organizations, especially governmental.
Racism certainly does still exist. It's a most unfortunate human "condition" that has been present since the beginning of time. But there have been not very subtle shifts over the years and it now crosses all racial borders.
Oh, yeah! Please don't try to tell me what I'm saying, ever. If you don't comprehend it, just ask!

First of all, the term "political correctness" really originated as a tongue in cheek terminology way back in the 1960s in the left progressive movement to chide people who were more concerned about appearances rather than working for real change.
It then got appropriated by the conservative movement as a means to bash liberals and to pretty much choke off any debate about social issues. It has also been used as a flimsy justification for some reactionary folks who pine for the good old days when you could use any sort of ethnic slur with inpunity. So I think political correctness is really used as a red herring argument by those who aren't comfortable with the gains made by groups who were and are historically marginalized in society, and diverts attention away from real societal issues.
Well, there still is a lot of inequality and it is still stacked in favor of white people in this country in terms of economic, political, and cultural forces. Ever hear of the equation Racism = predjudice + power? There's a big difference between an African American person who expresses anger or hostility at a random white person in the street and a (white-owned) bank that redlines mortgages or loans to a majority Hispanic or black neighborhood.

Using your logic, the slaves would be racist if they called the masters c****** behind their backs (the term originated in slavery). Are you expecting them to say that most white people are lovely other than a couple bad apples or do you think context is important here? White people have NEVER been subjugated by anybody else in America other than by other white people, EVER. Every single other group in the United States has. What you call racism is an acknowledgment that white people have a more than unfair advantage in this country by virtue of being white. Most of the country is still effectively segregated. If 80% of the country is white and they run 90%+ of all of the businesses in the country and run the country itself, what percentage of these bourgeois white people would you say were NOT raised in predominantly white neighborhoods and DID NOT go to predominantly white schools? Not to state the obvious but you're far more likely to hire someone you feel more comfortable around then someone you don't. The media doesn't exactly help white people feel comfortable around blacks or hispanics.

Like kids that have been picked on for years you pick on somebody long enough they will lash out. Minorities have a host of reasons where they may be cautious towards whites or feel backed into a corner. Which is different than a white person just randomly hating a group for how they look or feeling threatened they are \"taking over\".
