This thread is dedicated to those who say that there's nothing beautiful about East Oakland. To them, I say on the contrary... East Oakland is one of the most architecturally diverse areas in the Bay Area period and it is also the most racially diverse region in the Bay Area by far. It's host to its own robust selection of dining and its the home of one of the largest independent hip hop scenes in the country. It's home to the absolutely stunning Mills College, the iconic Mormon Temple and the old but vibrant Highland Hospital among other sights.

You are right, nice pictures, but then there's also Eastmont, Sobrante Prk, and Brookfield Village. i worked for 17 years in Oakland, lived there about 5-6 off 35th Ave just below McArthur. Like any big city it has it's good and bad. You should get some pictures up near Knowland, and Joaquin Miller.

Yeah I agree. East Oakland's also a lot larger than most people realize though. Most people only hear about Sobrante Park and the Ville and Castlemont when in fact, East Oakland is about 10 miles long and 3 miles wide. And even among those that know about Dimond/Laurel/Glenview etc. a lot of them think that anything below 580 is a boarded-up war-zone when that couldn't be further from the truth.

well Parti Rhinocerous seemed to have driven Mr. Failtastic off a while ago when he seemed to reveal that Mr F was a waiter rather than a "PhD" who "sells real estate in Marin and the OC." Hmm, seems like his imitators took off too...


Anyway some nice almost mansion-y type houses there...what's up with that cabin-looking house near the end?

ROFL are you serious? I didn't know that's why he left. Wow.


As for that house, idk. A lot of the housing stock in East Oakland is fairly old... and being that its right next to a creek, there could have been people living there before it became a larger city. You never know... I wish local history was better documented. At this point the only thing I know about Oakland is that North Oakland and Emeryville are built on Indian graves (thus Shellmound st. and the name Temescal).

nineties flava - you rarely take pictures above 580 or in the hills
areas like upper rockridge,piedmont pines ,claimont pines,crocker highlands, montclair,shepherds canyon ,glen highlands etc.
for someone aiming for the beautiful areas of oakland why do you avoid what most consider the best areas.
