Are you talking about Alta Loma Middle School in South San Francisco (San Mateo County)? I live in the area, but don't know of an Alta Lomas school in San Mateo.

South San Francisco is kind of a "mixed-bag"... has some good parts, and some that aren't so good, but none of it's really horrible. If anything, I'd suggest living in the hills of SSF, up near highway 280... it's very foggy there, but nicer & safer than the areas near hwy 101 (also more expensive, of course ). As for nearby cities, San Bruno, Millbrae and Daly City are decent, and also nicer up near 280. My TOP choices would be Brisbane, Burlingame, or Pacifica, if you can find something in your price range... all are very safe, "quiet" and clean, but Pacifica is even foggier than SSF (which I personally don't mind). I actually lived in Pacifica for a short while, and LOVED it there - just to give you a taste of why, here are a few pictures...

From my back porch...

A bit of the famous fog!

Esplanade Beach, just a block from where I lived...

wow, thanks for the replies. Those pictures are awesome! i have googled the school, checked reviews but they don't always give you a good picture of whats really going on. The statistics are hard to read as well. I've been recently told by a teacher there its "middle class" student population therefore most students come ready to learn.
