I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. Give me five bees for a quarter, you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah: the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones.

Hahaha... ABE!

I don't care if anyone wants to say "west bay" but don't expect people to know what you are talking about and be prepared to explain it in full. I live in the east bay, I can't remember the last time I even spoke those words outloud. I usually the say the name of my city.

I have lived in the East Bay for nearly 30 years. If you want to live in the West Bay, feel free. If no one knows what you're talking about, it's on you.

They've changed a bunch of place names back where I come from sucessfully. So if you want everyone to call it West Bay, what you'll have to do is buy up a big parcel of land, and develop a wonderful housing development and call it West Bay. And then, start building shops and stores in West Bay....

And the area will eventually be called West Bay.

Problem solved.

Yah, technically you live on the west side of the Bay, but no-one will know what you're going on about if you use that term. Those areas are known as San Francisco and The Peninsula in common usage, that's just the way things developed over the years.

Yes, I am very well aware of the local usage of the term Marin, the City and the Peninsula.
My point is this.
Why is it okay to use the term East Bay, North Bay, South Bay, hell even Monterey Bay to describe your area but I cant use the term West Bay to describe SF and its side of the Bay. When did the City and the Peninsula split up? I never got that memo. I always thought we were one region, the West Bay, the Golden Gate, the 416/650, Greater SF or whatever you want to call it. Its the same region on the same side of the Bay.

That's when they broke the two up and created San Mateo County.

You can use it. Good luck getting anybody else to.

And calling the Peninsula "Greater SF" is somewhat of an insult to the Peninsula... it has its own identity, thus why its called the Peninsula and not outer-SF.
