Hello! I am doing an internship at St. Mary's in Moraga this summer. I was wondering what are some things I should see in Moraga and the surrounding area while I am out there? THANKS!

Moaraga itself is a very sleepy town. There's a great trail that runs through Moraga and the surrounding towns for biking/walking etc. They also have an excellent farmer's market on Sundays and a movie theater. Oh, there's a beautiful hiking trail with fabulous views of the Lafayette Resevoir at the end of Campolindo Dr.

You'll probably want to venture into Berkeley, Oakland, San Francisco, Walnut Creek etc for more excitement. I highly recommend the Oakland Museum for a day- really cool and interesting- all about California history and art. There's a beautiful regional park outside of Moraga called Redwood Regional Park which has nice trails and feels like you're in Tahoe. Berkeley has some great neighborhoods to walk around, grab a bite to eat and shops to browse. There's a fantastic ice cream shop in the Elmwood neighborhood called "Ici" that is to die for. Walnut Creek has a nice downtown for browsing as well. They also have a theater called the Lesher Center for ballet/theatre/comedy etc.

There's Mt Diablo in Walnut Creek and Tilden Park on Berkeley/Orinda border- trails/hiking etc. there are wonderful views of the Bay. There's swimming beach at Lake Anza (mostly kids going in though) and botanical gardens. And of course San Francisco is not far (take BART from Lafayette- about 20 minutes) and spend some time there--tons to do and see and eat!

Clongirl is right--Moraga is pretty quitet. Tilden Park is great, as well as some trails that run through Moraga. For some retail therapy you can't beat TJ Maxx--ours really is the best around! You can also take BART to the city. In the summer we go to S.F. quite often, because there is so much to see. We love going to Japantown--you can spend a whole day looking at the shops and eating great food (it is an indoor mall, but a really neat one). Going the other direction Walnut Creek has lots of great shops and restaurants as well. Lafayette has a brand new library that is a perfect place to hang out at on a summer day. It has great architecture, comfortable seating, and lots of computers.
