So I will soon be traveling from SF to Berkeley (possibly Santa Clara to Berkeley) and I wanted to know how traffic is - google maps can only tell you so much. I have to be at Berkeley no later than 7:50 am on Fridays. I know from SF to Berkeley I will be taking Bay Bridge and whatnot, but I don't know how long it will take with traffic and all. I'm thinking of leaving at 6:30 am, would this be ok?

Now Santa Clara is a bit more complicated because each time I've gone, I taken different routes. Some seem longer than others so I wanted to know which way would be fastest. Additionally, which of the two is safest? 880 has its rough moments, but the Bay Bridge gives me the willies.

So taking these criteria into consideration (time, safety, traffic, length), which do you think would be better?

Thank you!

SF to Berkeley in the mornings is easy, you are basically going in the opposite direction of traffic.

Santa Clara to Berkeley, will be a cluster. You have to come all the way up the Peninsula, with all the traffic trying to get to Downtown SF, then have to get through SF, to Berkeley.

The Bay Bridge is an easy commute, it's 6 lanes of no traffic in the mornings heading to the east bay.

880 will be a cluster of everyone trying to get to SF and the East Bay.

Long story short
SF to BERK: 20 mins
SC to BERK: 1.5 hours
