Sad news in Oakland North: Former Super Longs to close amidst extensive redevelopment plans – Oakland North : North Oakland News, Food, Art and Events

Not only did this awesome CVS (Longs) have Top Dog, Garden, and huge well-priced art section and everything you'd find in Walmart, it was 24/7.

Even worse, the best (and cheapest) shoe repair ever is in the store. It is literally half of the price of any shoe repair shop I have visited all over the Bay.

The mini CVS has on Piedmont Ave has no selection, and crappy hours. Same is true of the Lakeshore outlet. Walgreen is just not as appealing as CVS.

Crap. It's got kind of a crappy selection but it's been useful to me for various things I can't otherwise easily get nearby. At least the new Target is coming but that's a somewhat long bike ride away rather than a quick walk. I hope they don't shut down the Safeway while they're building the new one. The CVS looks a little threadbare but the rest of the shopping center looks fine to me.

That sucks. I wouldnt be surprised if a Target or something similar moved in but it wont have that same mix of things that the previous tenant had. I remember going there way back when it was a Thrifty. LOL.

I'd love a Target to open there, but Super CVS (well up until a few weeks ago) still won in terms of arts and crafts selection and of course the whole 24/7 factor. And well, I have yet to go to a Target with shoe repair. Drat, where am I going to go. The shoe repair on Piedmont Ave is way overpriced. Any recs?

I went to that CVS on a Sat late afternoon. Stood in line 20 minutes. When I got to the window, the pharmacist dropped the rolling gate down and said they were closing and told me to go to Walgreens at 51st and Telegraph. They may be good for cheap goods at odd hours but they suck at customer service.

I first went to that store in 1981 when it was a Payless. It got changed into RiteAid for a few years and then Longs. What will happen to the Top Dog now??

The huge Safeway used to be much smaller and there was a small theater where the Bank of America is now. Also there was an Emil Villa to the right.

I have been filling my perscriptions at Pharmaca on College. The hours are the same as CVS for the pharmacy, and many of my items were cheaper. Also it has a nicer atmosphere. They take forever to call when your prescription is ready, but it is usually ready hours before the estimated time. And if you come in, of course they "rush" for you. They also have a similar rewards program.
