My husband, 2 month old daughter and I are looking to rent in the Peninsula area, and I was hoping to get feedback on nice family neighborhoods in the region.
I've got a job in downtown San Francisco and my husband will be commuting to the South Bay. We are looking at places close to the BART line, so that my commute is easier (as my daughter is only 2 months old).
The places we've looking at so far are Millbrae, Burlingame, Daly City and South San Francisco.
It would be great to know what neighborhoods are safe and family friendly in these cities.

Burlingame and Millbrae = all safe areas. Neither city has a "bad area". Daly City and South San Francisco have their good and not so good areas (and I'm not that familiar with the specific areas, so will leave that to others to comment on).

Check out Archstone apartments in South San Francisco on El Camino Real. New buildings next to the BART station. There is also a Trader Joes and a Costco within a block.

The best neighborhood in South San Francisco is Avalon Park, then Sunshine Gardens, but they're both right in the SFO flightpath so you should ideally be a heavy sleeper.

For Daly City it's generally safe up in the hills, Westlake, and Skyline. But skyline and highway 1 gets really cold, windy, and foggy. The Geneva area and "original" Daly City could get a bit sketchy but prices are definitely lower there.
