I was watching "My First Place." Prospective Bay Area buyer. The first part of the show has her looking at condos in Rockridge. No mention of east bay, or Oakland. Rockridge is called "that charming neighborhood you like. There are lots of stats about Victorians in SF (huh?). Then she looks at single family homes in El Cerrito. It starts with "I am looking for homes in the East Bay, and it calls out El Cerrito specifically.

I wish they would have just said: we are now in the Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland. #fail

Im not surprised at all. It offends their sensibilities to acknowledge Oakland has desirable neighborhoods. By some accounts, you'd think that Oakland Hills and Montclair were separate cities.

You do realize that "reality" television has no basis in reality?

Omg I just realized I've lived in Oakland this whole time! I thought Rockridge was a separate city! One day I'm going to wake up and find myself ghost riding the whip!

Man -- I used to watch House Hunters until I heard it was faked. Really ticked me off.... I stopped watching HGTV pretty much all the way.

Those shows never tell you exactly where they are, they just describe the general neighborhood.

I watch on a fairly regular basis (HGTV = great low commitment before bedtime TV). They have mentioned neighborhoods very frequently. Just in the Bay Area show's I've heard them mention:
Mission District in SF, SOMA in SF, Willow Glen in San Jose, Richmond the city and the neighborhood, Newark and Emeryville.

So it is pretty clear to me it was kinda intentional. They mention neighborhood names and cities pretty often -- and even the suburbs. Especially in the My First place show. They are actually fairly specific (this show usually includes interest rate and home price and sometimes the realtor's name and company.)

House Hunters is hit or miss on divulging neighborhood location.

I only want consistency.

You're right...they are pretty ambiguous at times on that show. I too have seen them offer more information regarding the general "area" then the city itself.
