Haha yeah true dat, but I know they don't have to hear those names said with the frequency and repetition that we do for "San Fran." Even "*****" isn't used as often and that actually IS used by SD residents!

People will write "San Fran" 3 times or more in the same paragraph or say it 10 times or so in a conversation. NO ONE is doing that that much with "Big Apple," "Beantown," or "the City of Brotherly Love." And I doubt that those names were originally conceived solely by outsiders.

I say "San Fran" (although I do usually call it by the full name). "The Fran" doesn't sound right.

It seems that despite what the transplant hipsters and yuppies say (most likely trying to prove their local connection?), EVERYONE under the age of 25, especially those of color, call it "Frisco". in fact, I'd argue that if you have a problem with it being called Frisco, you either know no one who isn't white, or you're not a local.

Everyone? I've heard the opposite from numerous college kids around here.

Then again, if we have decided it's a kid thing, then is it also a temporary fad thing, soon to be dropped by the wayside along with the baggy pants?
