1. Yes, there is more land to move out to.
2. I'm not interested in living there. It's SF or LA for me Problems and all. Not quite running away...
3. These cities are not being "used up in an instant" and "discarded." They're still packed to the brim. That is why the suburbs around them are growing.
Well, of course, they are what you say they are. And they will continue to grow, including their metropolitan areas in an insanely growing global population where 20 or 30 or 40 million can live in a metropolitan area. Which will, of course, be their own hell-on-earth and totally unsustainable.

Cities and metro areas have endless supplies moved from other places at great expense to the planet. Is this a desire to see sprawl? no. It is just the reality our modern city life extracts the riches from all over the planet and carries on the further destruction by transporting them.

Don't worry, 415, I never for a moment thought our cities were emptying out. By reflection was that for Americans, the grass is always greener elsewhere and we are constantly seeking to find the next eden, that never seems to come.

And i was suggesting that many of the people who are in the new non-urban, heavily white communities, spread throughout the southwest and the mountain west, have escaped urban areas that they no longer consider livable.

Me? I'd much rather be near a great, major city, like SF or LA or Chicago or New York.

No seriously, WTF does your dystopian screed have to do with the actual topic? We are a mobile society for a thousand reasons other than being a "throwaway society" "running away from problems" using up cities "in an instant." What the hell does that even mean? We have cities that have been around for the better part of 4 centuries and they will almost certainly be there for another 4 centuries. People move because they want a different experience or to pursue a new job opportunity or because they like the weather and climate better or because they feel more socially/culturally/politically "at home" in a different place or because their current city has become too expensive or because they met someone who lives far away and they're moving to be with them or because they want to take on a new challenge or God knows what else. And we have the transportation and communications infrastructure to do it while still keeping in touch with whoever stayed back in the city you just left.

We did in fact move out of Oakland when we both worked there to escape the crime, before starting a family. We moved to Castro Valley and were happy to commute. When we moved up here to the Seattle area it had nothing to do with crime or race, simply a desire to live in a more beautiful area with 4 seaons, and an opportunity for our kids to get a better education than they would in CA where things got pretty bad in the early 90s. here we are in the suburbs, though I work in Seattle. No problems with crime there, wee just prefer the woods and lakes to city living. Again, it's worth the commute to have a home with mountain and farm valley views.

It would say they where headed to the PNW and Arizona up until the early 00's. Now, with the economy, movement has slowed. I guess Portland and Sacramento are still pretty attractive. I also understand Kansas City and Oklahoma City are relatively popular nowadays. Either way, with the masses of Asians and Mexican/Central Americans coming in, it will naturally appear the Bay Area is getting less and less white.

Unless moving to Hawaii, China or India is a choice.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the white people aren't all going to China or India.
