I guess u didnt read everything I wrote because I clearly stated that I did not want to go on what one person told me. And the only reason I want to live there is for career reasons because the career I want to major in isnt a big deal on the east coast than west. Please learn how to read and comprehend or else u wouldnt of asked me this. Thanks anyway
Maybe you could use a little help with "reading and comprehension" yourself. Guess I need to break this down again.
"People on the east coast think west coast is more accepting because of all the different ethnicities there but I guess not."
I'm asking, why do you "guess not?" What caused you to come to a conclusion already? If you're not going off that one person, then why would you say that? You asked your questions and hardly got any feedback, and then your mind is already made up - or at least that's how it came across the way you wrote that.
This forum is a haven and a magnet for trolls. We get like 20 of these threads a week and like 75% of them will turn out to be BS from someone just trying to incite argument. If that's not what you're doing then I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. But the idea that you would want to move to a place that you have only heard from one person about and what you heard was negative, is suspect to begin with.
And then following up with that statement by your 3rd post when you hardly had anything to go off made it seem like you had a certain mindset and were just looking for the answer to be, "SF doesn't like black people and various ethnic groups don't get along here." We get people doing stuff like that on the daily, and if you're not one of them then great, and I apologize if I had you pegged wrong. But you sure sounded an awful lot like one by what you had said.
Not sure what your career is going to be, but if you are just genuinely asking then the short answer regarding SF would be, it is what you make of it and don't go solely off stereotypes. The people that move out here with a certain unrealistic image of what SF should be end up sorely disappointed when it either doesn't fit the bill, or it even slightly resembles any negative stereotypes that that person had been fed before coming here. If you want to come out here, come with an open mind. Otherwise, the only way you'll like it will be to subscribe to one of the many extreme fringe minorities that exist out here (anything from yuppies/hipsters to vegan activists). And a lot of those people don't seem to happy to begin with lol.
Many black folks do just fine out here in the Bay and love it. Some don't, just like anyone else. There is a ridiculously disproportionate percentage of our criminals that happen to be black - last I read a few years back SF jails were 60% black for women and 67% black for men in a city where the black population is just under 7% (crazy, right?!). And the "black" areas of SF like Hunters Point and Sunnydale or the other Bay Area cities with larger black populations like Richmond, Oakland, East Palo Alto, etc. are often associated only with crime, whether they should be or not.
So there does tend to be a negative view of the hood, and people who dress like they're from the hood will understandably often be presumed to be criminals. Which sucks for those who aren't and just dress that way (meaning non-backpacker hip hop style for the most part), but at the same time the vast majority of those who are robbing and shooting, whether black, white, Latino, Asian, Polynesian, etc., are dressed that way. So its tough to blame the public for that perception.
Basically if you are wearing a "criminal's uniform," (meaning hood thug, not covert pedophile/rapist or white collar criminal) then oftentimes you will be taken for one. Just like if I'm shopping at Target in a red polo shirt w/o a cart or basket, someone might take me for an employee and ask me where to find stuff. If you fit the part, then you gotta either make the effort to separate yourself from those who are up to no good, or accept your fate. Same goes for anyone, even a white dude. If you're white and bald-headed with nazi tats on your arms and neck, wearing a wife beater and doc martins, you're probably not going to get hired too many places and people will view you as a criminal as well.
That being said, there's really no reason ANY black person wouldn't be able to thrive out here if they are not looking for trouble, do not have a chip on their shoulder, know how to carry themselves and interact with people of various backgrounds, and they are friendly in general. Even dudes from the worst projects in the area can fit in just fine if they are willing to. It all depends on how you live your life. And that doesn't mean pretending to be something you're not; it just means being able to find common ground with people who come from backgrounds that are completely different than yours. I've known more black people that could do this just fine than those who could not. Sellouts/uncle toms tend to not do quite as well in this regard b/c they usually are limiting themselves to the realm of white professionals or something like that, but most regular black folks out here don't have that problem IMO.
I've never personally known any black person to truly hate it out here, other than wanting to get out the hood. I've seen some online who have ranted, but their issues seemed to be more related to having no game and not being able to get any black women out here. And that is one thing I will say; black women out here are not very abundant, and if you're looking for a lot of black cultural events then the selection out here is small compared to the cities in the South or East.
But generally speaking, there isn't really beef between races out here. There may be individuals or even certain groups of people with negative views, but there is no real outright drama between races here to speak of. If you're just a normal person who gets along with everyone and generally stays out of areas that are known for either having trouble or lots of douchebags, you'll be just fine IMO. Hope this helps.

And the troll card has been drawn! Congratulations on showing your true colors early; consider my theoretical apology withdrawn and my advice nullified seeing as your purpose is now clear. Thanks for playing. Bye bye now.
Well I never lived in San Fran but I have been a few times and I never had any issue with latins and I am mixed with black. As matter of fact I got to know a few Latina's . Love those beautiful latin ladies haha.. Honestly I guess because before I moved to Seattle I was originally from the south so if their are racist people those country southerners killed my sensitivity to it.. Like any place in the world it depends on what part of the area you live in.. In San fran I found people really nice and seem to have a smile on their face. Now living in Seattle people are nice and easy going but sometimes they mostly keep a business professional look until you speak to them and then they will talk your ear off unless it's one of the hippies they are funny sometimes. haha

I don't think people should base their relocation on whether there are people of similar races there or not. If segregation is tp end, and neighborhoods ar to blossom, someone has to be brave enough to necome the minority.
I say go where you please. If you don't like it, you can always go back east. You're young and have many years ahead of you.
