First of all, why are you thinking of moving? Do you have careers that are in demand? Do you have any idea about the cost of living in the bay area or how hard it is to get employment? Do you plan on moving without jobs and do you have a nest egg to fall back on?

If you can handle the move emotionally and financually there are a lot of great Bay area locations. Most of the eastbay is nice, San Francisco itself had be a great place to live if you can afford it and are childless. Marin co is my favorite part of the bay area.

so you are saying your husband can transfer to any Sprint location whether they have openings or not? Are you saying every store needs an assistnat manager? If so, I would say the east bay (quite a way out from the city) would be your best bet. Even one bedroom, decent apartments are not easy to find for $1200 a month. Your planning a trip in Sept will help you a lot. I do have to wonder, in this economy why would you want to leave Texas right now? Well, the weather, of course would be one reason I am sure.

For me personally, a commute within half the length of the Peninsula is easy and desirable - takes 25 minutes on train, basically. Anything longer gets less desirable. For someone who needs to commute to work, this can affect their decision.

The towns along the Peninsula (anything south of Daly City) seem to me very similar to each other. The best way to characterize it would be suburbs. I currently live in Sunnyvale and like it. I think I would also like any of the other towns on the Peninsula.

In contrast, the atmosphere of San Francisco is very different - it's more urban, hip, cultural. For some people, this may be another deciding factor. If they prefer more cultural/nightlife or more peaceful (boring) suburbs.

All I was asking was for some advice and not a lecture on the economy. We have our own reasons for moving and only we know our financial situation. I appreciate those of you that were kind enough to give me some helpful advise.
